I'm finally upgrading from my 15" 2016 2.6 GHz Macbook Pro Quad-Core i7. It looks recent versions of that drive have slow write speeds, but they are only $200 now. The 2TB WD SN750 boot drive for the PC would have been good if it wasn't the version with heat sink. Neither of the 2TB NVMe M.2s I have are good options. I am now deciding on an M.2 to throw in a Thunderbolt enclosure. I upgraded my PC's main drive to 2TB last year, and haven't had to manage it much at all.

1TB requires a lot more management than 2TB. I do kinda wish I had splurged in the 2 or even 4 TB SSD upgrades. If I decided to start doing 16 capture pixel shift images with the A7RIV 16 GB might be a problem. The iMac came with 40 GB of memory which was definitely more than necessary. I've had 32 GB of memory in my PC for the past couple of years after trying a 2017 iMac for a while that broke when I was trying to add internal storage to it. Upgrading to the base 16" chassis seems a better option for actual performance. I bought the fully enabled M1 Pro with the base memory and the 1TB SSD, but I am sure the extra cores are not terribly useful while consuming more power.
